The blue of the indigo bunting might be my favorite color in the natural world. The crazy thing is that they’re not actually blue. Their feather structure diffracts light to make them seem blue. As far as pigmentation goes, they’re black. This is my favorite shot I’ve gotten of this gorgeous bird.
