In Greek mythology, Cadmus was a Phoenician prince from Tyre who founded and was first king of Thebes, Greece. He was the first hero and greatest slayer of monsters before Heracles. He was credited with spreading the Phoenician alphabet to Greece. Thebes was later destroyed by Alexander in 335 BC.
